Welcome Back

Dear Parents (And Explorers),

As we are now well into the swing of being back face to face scouting I thought it was a good time to do some housekeeping. 

It’s been a very long year for a lot of us and we have not seen some faces since March 2020. As a unit we would like to welcome every one of you back to face to face scouting after all this time. If you no longer wish to be a member of the unit please let me know. It’s very difficult to plan and book activities if we don’t know how many people are planning to attend. Along this line if we do not hear from you or see you before the end of September we will assume you no longer wish to be a member of the unit and will stop emailing you. (You are welcome back anytime you wish, just drop me an email)


Since last March our subs have been set to £1 / person / month. Due to the unit now being back face to face and the UK scouts not reducing the amount they charge the units to run each year (Capitation) we will have to not only return our subs to the levels pre-COVID but actually increase them slightly to allow us to continue to have enough cash flow to keep running. As such we will be increasing subs to £15 / person / month.

We are going to subsidise events and activities as much as we can but we will be asking for parents to contribute to the cost of some activities that are not feasible for the unit to pay for. 

As always if you are unable to pay these subs due to personal circumstances please let a member of the leadership team know.

We would ideally like to collect Subs Via OSM but we still still accept bank transfers


As we are allowed to get back together now we are planning a number of events. Please keep an eye on your emails as well as facebook to keep up to date with what’s happening

Socially Distanced Fire Lighting

For our First meeting back we decided to do a Fiery Dragons Favourite and light some fires.

While maintaining social distancing and wearing masks our Young People lit 12 individual fires using cotton wool and Flint and steels

Return of Face to Face Scouting

Hello Explorers!
We bring good news, ScoutsCymru have announced that we can resume face to face scouting from the 27 March! 
Here is the plan: Fiery Dragons will be meeting OUTSIDE from next week (2nd April)

  • We will run our normal weekly programme outside 
  • We wont be taking a break for the Easter holidays (the timings for the meeting during Easter [9th] may change to a daytime meeting)
  • We will run f2f as long as we can and look to continue scouting throughout the summer (TBC)

As with the last time around there are a few restrictions:

  • Face to face Scouting sessions for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers can be run outdoors only in one fixed location
  • There is no limit to the number of adults or young people that can attend an outdoor session
  • Outdoor sessions should be for one, individual Scouting section. Multiple sections or Groups mixing together should be avoided
  • Social distancing of 2 metres must be adhered to for all those aged 11 and upwards
  • Where social distancing cannot be adhered to face coverings should be worn by everyone aged 11 and upwards
  • Outdoor sessions must be in one fixed location. Undertaking a walk / hike / expedition or similar is not permitted
  • Visits, trips or residential activities are not permitted

With this in mind expect another email from us during the week with the risk assessment and information about what we will be up to on Friday
